A severe hail storm tracked through Ardmore, Oklahoma on September 21, 2026, producing 1.75-inch stones and prompting multiple NWS warnings and radar hail detections. The event spanned late afternoon into early evening and produced both radar-detected cores and spotter-verified surface reports.
NWS warnings began around late afternoon. At 3:30 PM CDT the first warning noted 0.75-inch hail. Additional NWS warnings followed at 4:21 PM CDT for 0.75-inch and at 4:34 PM CDT for 1.00-inch. Dual-polarization NEXRAD radar detected stronger echo cores beginning at 4:37 PM CDT with radar-derived hail estimates near 1.43 inches, and a subsequent radar detection at 4:59 PM CDT showing 1.65-inch estimates. A final NWS warning was issued at 7:15 PM CDT for 1.00-inch hail.
Spotter and local storm reports documented surface impacts in the Ardmore metro late in the event. At 7:25 PM CDT an observer reported quarter-sized hail near the Golden Triangle area at Keller Smithfield Road. At 7:36 PM CDT spotters reported numerous pea- to penny-sized stones across Keller. Those spotter-verified observations coincide with the later NWS warning cycle in the early evening.
Radar and warning timing indicate an initial line of storms producing hail-bearing cores in the late afternoon, followed by a slower-moving or regenerating cluster that produced the spotter reports in Keller and Golden Triangle after 7:00 PM CDT. The sequence shows early NWS-only warnings, two radar-derived hail detections from NEXRAD dual-polarization, and later ground reports that localized impacts to specific neighborhoods.
Field reports focused on Keller and the Golden Triangle corridor. Spotters reported coin-sized and smaller hail in those locations. Local storm reports did not include roof-collapse or large-structure failure for Ardmore in the submitted observations.
On-site implications from the reported impacts are primarily cosmetic. Quarter- and penny-sized stones reported along Keller Smithfield Road and across Keller are consistent with paint chips, small dents on exposed metal, and localized asphalt shingle granule loss on older roofs. The radar-detected 1.43- to 1.65-inch cores detected earlier in the late afternoon indicate a potential for isolated larger impacts along the storm track where those radar cores crossed populated areas. However, no large-scale vehicle fleet or commercial property damage reports are present in the available spotter feeds for Ardmore.
Inspectors working in the field should expect heterogeneous impact patterns. The later spotter reports show concentrated pockets of hail in Keller and Golden Triangle rather than even coverage across the entire Ardmore metro. Document impact density by street block and compare to the time stamps in local storm reports when evaluating claim exposure.

Try the Free Demo →Prioritize inspections within Keller neighborhoods and along Keller Smithfield Road and the Golden Triangle corridor. Field teams should start where spotter activity was logged between 7:25 PM CDT and 7:40 PM CDT and expand outward in a 0.5–1 mile radius, documenting both hail size evidence and granule loss. Photograph hail impact sites with a time-stamped workflow and capture vehicle panel dents, satellite dish pitting, and shingle granule displacement on gutters.
For roofs, focus on suspect areas: south- and west-facing slopes where wind-driven hail commonly concentrates, ridge caps, and exposed flashings. Use handheld hail gauges or a coin reference in photos to corroborate spotter size classifications. When estimating repair scope, note that reported penny- and quarter-sized hail often produces cosmetic shingle damage and localized granule loss; confirm with close-up photos before recommending full replacement.
Coordinate with adjusters on properties under NWS warning times earlier in the day where radar cores showed 1.43 to 1.65-inch estimates. Those radar detections can flag locations for a second-pass inspection if initial ground checks find signs of larger impacts. Maintain a log that ties each inspected address to the local storm report timestamps.
