Bergland, MI, August 7, 2026. A severe storm is tracking through the Bergland area in the early evening, producing a peak hail stone of 3.41 inches and ongoing hail-producing cells.
The storm began producing severe returns in late afternoon and intensified into the early evening. NWS alerts were issued across multiple zones between 5:25 PM EDT and 7:23 PM EDT. Key alerts in the sequence: 5:25 PM EDT – 1.25-inch hail detected by dual-polarization radar; 6:08 PM EDT – 1.28-inch radar-detected hail; 6:13 PM EDT – 1.25-inch radar-detected hail. Later alerts at 6:49 PM EDT, 6:58 PM EDT, and 7:23 PM EDT referenced 0.75-inch hail inside NWS warning areas without additional radar hail size updates.
Radar-derived hail signatures show concentrated returns over the Bergland metro and adjacent rural sections. Local cells continue producing large hail as of the latest advisory, and conditions may still be developing across the coverage area. The highest measured hail stone for this multi-zone event is 3.41 inches, with recorded values across alerts and ground checks ranging down to 0.75 inch.
Observed hail sizes span roughly 0.75 inch to 3.41 inches across the Bergland area. Hail in the 1.25–1.28-inch range commonly dents painted metal surfaces, causes significant pockmarking on composite roofing, and cracks vehicle glass under direct impact. Hail at or near 3.41 inches carries sufficient mass to break residential window panes, cause localized roof penetration on older or exposed shingles, and shatter large vehicle glass components.
Report locations and radar returns align on a concentrated corridor through the Bergland metro. Expect the heaviest surface impacts where radar-detected maxima and NWS warning areas overlap.
