Drums, PA is experiencing an active hail-producing storm on August 7, 2026, with peak hail reported at 1.84 inches and intermittent severe-warned activity tracking through the town. The system is producing repeated NWS warnings and radar-detected hail cores as it moves from mid-afternoon into the evening.
The event began in mid-afternoon and has persisted into the early evening, producing 46 NWS alerts tied to the multi-zone aggregate that includes Drums. The alert stream shows repeated NWS warning only messages through the afternoon and evening, with two dual-polarization radar detections noted in the alert sequence. Dual-polarization radar returns registered 1.05 inches around 2:58 PM EDT and 1.34 inches around 3:03 PM EDT. Several NWS warnings reported hail values at or above 0.75 inch throughout the afternoon. A small number of NWS messages during the event listed zero-inch hail, reflecting wind or other warning-type updates in the same polygons. The alert timeline extends into the night, with the last automated warning posted at 8:52 PM EDT, and the storm is tracking through the Drums area and continuing to produce intermittent hail.
Measured hail across the warning area varied from negligible pellets to near golf-ball scale. Hail in the 1.0-inch range was reported repeatedly in NWS warning messages and by radar returns. At that scale, impacts recorded in similar events include dents to vehicle panels, broken skylights or sunroof glass, and bruising to vulnerable siding. Returns above golf-ball scale increase the likelihood of damage to asphalt shingles, exposed HVAC fins, and unprotected outdoor equipment. No spotter-verified roof-collapse or widespread structural failure reports appear in the alert stream as of the latest warnings.
Inspect vehicles, roofing, and exterior glass in the Drums area first. Prioritize soft-metal body panels, sunroofs, and skylights for photographic documentation. For roofs, check asphalt shingle granule loss, split or cracked shingles, and denting on metal flashings. Record GPS locations when damage is found and timestamp photos to correlate with the alert timeline.
Temporary mitigation should focus on water intrusion prevention and safety. Place tarps over punctured roofing only if conditions allow safe access. Secure or remove damaged outdoor equipment that could become a hazard during continued storm activity. Coordinate with property owners on prioritized repairs and provide cost-to-replace estimates where hail-sized damage to vehicles or roofing is evident.
