The event began with an NWS warning issued at 11:31 PM CDT on August 4 for 0.75-inch hail. Warnings continued through the night for the Hastings metro, totaling 13 NWS alerts spanning 11:31 PM on August 4 through 6:55 AM on August 5. Dual-polarization radar first detected larger hail at 12:18 AM CDT on August 5, with radar-derived hail sizes increasing to 1.19 inches and then to 1.71 inches within the next ten minutes. Radar detections continued, peaking in the overnight hours with multiple radar-derived reports near and above 1.5 inches; several later NWS warning-only alerts repeated 1.0-inch and smaller hail as the storm moved east. The storm produced a distributed hail footprint across the Hastings warning area rather than a single narrow corridor. The event is now concluded and no active warnings remain for this system.
