Ogdensburg, NY, late evening July 14 into early morning July 15, 2026, is experiencing an active hail-producing storm that has generated up to 3.39-inch hail as it tracks through the metro.
Storm activity began late on July 14 and continued into the overnight hours of July 15. The National Weather Service issued 19 alerts for the Ogdensburg metro between 11:41 PM on July 14 and 4:42 AM on July 15. Dual-polarization radar detected a strong hail signature at 12:28 AM on July 15 and a secondary radar signature at 4:16 AM. The remainder of the sequence consists of NWS warning-only alerts and multiple one-inch or larger reports within the NWS warning area. The system is active and continuing to produce hail and strong convective cells as it moves through the region.
Within the NWS warning area covering the Ogdensburg metro, radar-detected large-hail signatures and multiple warning-only reports indicate layered impacts across the overnight track. Large-diameter hail signatures overnight are consistent with roof-penetrating strikes on older or compromised asphalt shingles, broken or cracked skylights, and significant denting to unprotected vehicles. Repeated pulses of one-inch to 1.75-inch hail across suburban neighborhoods commonly produce granule loss on shingle surfaces and cosmetic damage to vinyl siding, soffits, and gutters.
Commercial properties with single-pane storefront glass or exposed rooftop equipment are at elevated risk where larger radar signatures passed. Overnight timing increases the risk of unattended vehicle and equipment exposure. Areas under repeated warning-only alerts should be prioritized for rapid exterior surveys once it is safe to access sites.
Conduct external safety checks first. Confirm local warnings have expired before sending crews. Prioritize triage inspections on properties inside the NWS warning area, starting with neighborhoods and corridors that align with the radar-detected large-hail signatures and the times of the dual-polarization detections. Document roof penetrations, broken glazing, and major vehicle damage with timestamped photos and GPS-tagged notes. Note the time window of impact when filing estimates and communicating with property owners.
Prepare for mixed-scope repairs. Expect a range from spot repairs for gutters and siding to full shingle replacements and glass replacement where larger hail signatures occurred. Arrange fall protection and secure permits for roof access before work begins. Collect customer statements about when vehicles or equipment were left outside. Recommend temporary tarps and immediate tie-downs for damaged rooftop equipment to prevent secondary water intrusion while claims are processed.
