Camp Verde, Arizona experienced a multi-zone hail event on July 12, 2026 with radar-detected hail up to 2.11 inches. The storm passed across the metro in late afternoon and is now concluded.
The event produced six NWS alerts between mid-afternoon and early evening. Alerts began with dual-polarization radar detection at 2:29 PM MST showing 1.38-inch hail near the southwest edge of the metro. At 2:56 PM MST dual-polarization radar indicated the largest returns of the event with hail estimated at 2.11 inches. Subsequent radar-detected alerts recorded 1.00 inch at 3:05 PM MST and 1.58 inches at 3:16 PM MST as the storm moved northeast. A later dual-polarization radar detection at 4:25 PM MST returned 1.30-inch hail. A final NWS warning-only alert at 4:55 PM MST covered an area with estimated 0.75-inch hail but without supporting dual-polarization radar hail signatures.
NWS warning polygons accompanied the sequence and shifted northeast across the Camp Verde metro. Radar-derived hail detections were present in four of the six alerts. The storm was not active after the 4:55 PM MST warning; the event is recorded as concluded.
Observed radar hail sizes ranged from 0.75 inch to 2.11 inches. Hail at or above 1.25 inches can dent vehicle panels and damage aluminum siding in exposed locations. Hail in the 1.5 to 2.11 inch range can fracture single-layer asphalt shingles, damage unprotected skylights, and crack photovoltaic glass if impact angles concentrate on panels.
Lower-end detections near 0.75 inch are more likely to strip vegetation and cause cosmetic damage to soft materials. Reports of larger radar returns around 2:56 PM MST identify the portions of the metro most at risk for significant roof and vehicle impacts. Field verification and photographic documentation will distinguish between new storm damage and pre-existing conditions.
Prioritize inspections along the radar-detected path and within the NWS warning polygons that correspond to the 2:56 PM MST and 3:16 PM MST alerts. Start with roofs visible from the ground and vehicles parked along streets; look for concentrated impact clusters, missing granules, circular impact marks, cracked solar glass, and dented metal. Photograph all findings with time-stamped images and include a wide shot that shows the property relative to known road intersections or landmarks.
Perform safe access checks before roof work. Use established fall protection and ladder protocols. For claims work, create condition logs that separate pre-existing issues from fresh impact evidence. Triage repairs by severity: temporary tarps for open roof penetrations, targeted shingle replacement where single-layer shingles are fractured, and full inspections of solar arrays and outdoor HVAC units.
